Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis. Funding consideration will be based on a variety of factors including financial need, project merit, and availability of funds from alternative sources. The grants are intended to provide financial assistance for needs above and beyond the normal cost of medical school. For example, many students are obtaining acceptances to meetings to present research. This is a big expense and frequently not covered by a research mentor, department, or financial aid package. In contrast, the grants are not intended to cover the cost of expenses such as food, gas, rent, or fees for step exams or residency applications. I am sympathetic to these considerable expenses, but most of these are already included in individual financial aid packages. In regards to supplemental academic resources: unless you have already received an individual personal recommendation from a learning specialist to purchase these types of resources, please do not use the grant to apply.
