Kent Park is a scenic acre stretch of green that runs along Darby Creek under the historic Lindbergh Bridge. This park has traditionally been used for hiking and fishing and now features a renovated multi-recreational area with a playground, pavilion, and fenced-in dog park. The Kent Dog Park offers a fenced-in area for well-behaved dogs to get fresh air, exercise and playtime with other dogs. Members of the dog park may let their canine pals romp unleashed in the fenced-in facility, which contains a covered pavilion, benches, water, and, of course, dog-litter bags. The Dog Park is divided into two fenced-in areas: one for dogs 25 pounds and larger, and one for smaller dogs.

Kent Park were met with an empty lake and closed beach during an ongoing restoration project. For a park that attracts a lot of families, that meant fewer patrons the past two years, said Sherry Frantz, who serves as camp host at the F. Kent Park campground with her husband, Bill. The Frantzes live in the campground from mid-April until October or November and help campers check in and perform other duties. This year will be a different story. Johnson County conservation officials started refilling the lake in early April and thanks to heavy rainfall this month, the lake was fully filled this week.

There won't be much fishing at F. Kent County Park this summer. The only remnants of the acre lake are a few shallow puddles and discarded fishing bobbers.
