Some of these buildings are more than a hundred years old and date back to the time when Old Town was still a Chinese trading gate and therefore the most important place of Koh Lanta. In Old Town you can see this, among other things, like the small colorful Chinese Temple, which serves as a tribute to the community. Lanta Old Town was originally a sea gypsy settlement. Over the decades it transformed into a village influenced by trade.
