In addition to his duties of recruiting, training and leading the elite knights of the Reiksguard in battle, the Reiksmarshal is also the commander of all the Empire's forces, second only to the Emperor himself in matters of war. As such he has often led the army into battle, and is one of the most experienced generals in the Old World. Kurt Helborg was born in the Reikwald, and during this time he became known due to his being born into a wealthy family. During his youth he joined the Reiksgaurd alongside the future Emperor in Karl Franz, and in this way became very close to the future Emperor despite being significantly older then the young Karl. He would join Karl Franz during the revolt in the Lowlands and would be his main force commander throughout this conflict, and following this has become one of the most powerful military figures in the entire Empire. Kurt Helborg would be sent once again to the Lowlands and was tasked with expanding the war against the Kingdom of Alcase, with his end goal being the conquering of the land into the fold of The Empire.
