The lamb chops are simply magnificent; smoky from the grill but juicy and utterly irresistible. Succulent lamb pieces sit in a rich sauce which is flavoured very noticeably with cinnamon as well as other whole spices such as cardamom and cloves. With it comes a plate of optional toppings including crispy fried onion, coriander and thinly sliced ginger. Slabs of delicious freshwater fish sit in the kitchen in a marinade waiting for their moment. There is also quail batera for the grill and an array of karahi or dry-fried dishes. Like many ex-pats and their subsequent generations the designers of this restaurant have idealised and romanticised their homeland. The restaurant has been set out in the style of a Pakistani village with an almost theatrical backdrop at the rear. Fittingly, a terrific photographic portrait of the great Pakistani singer Sir Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan overlooks the kitchen.
