Do you think they presented Chomper in a very proper way in LBT 2 and 5? I'm in some doubts, especially concerning LBT 5 where we can't consider him as quite the hatchling that he was on his first day of life, shown in LBT 2. With everything the younger audience might not want to see being masked out I think we sort of get a wrong image of Chomper and also of Cera's distrust of him.

He is a friendly purple Tyrannosaurus , which is one of many species of carnivorous dinosaurs called "sharpteeth" in the Land Before Time series. He is the new cutest member of the team. Being raised by them for the first day of his life has led him to be friendly with herbivorous dinosaurs, although they do not always trust him. But his friends still like him anyway. He is bilingual, being able to speak both the herbivore language of the plant-eating dinosaurs heard as English to the viewer , and the "Sharptooth" language of the carnivorous dinosaurs, which seems to consist of grunts, roars, and clicks, which makes him quite useful in solving disputes between the herbivores and carnivores. Chomper was so well-received by the fans and critics of the series that he was brought back as a major character in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island and Journey of the Brave , and re-introduced as a main character in the television series. Chomper is kind and extroverted. But he is also a little naive when he sometimes offers insects to his friends, forgetting that they are herbivores. Chomper is always loyal to his friends, it hurts him so much that his friends do not trust him a lot on occasion for being a sharptooth, something that once Cera expressed her distrust of him by openly hurting his feelings in the fifth movie.

Steven Spielberg 's studio Amblin Entertainment was interested in doing a film about dinosaurs, which were popular at the time, leading Spielberg, director Don Bluth , and producer George Lucas to develop the prehistoric setting and its cast. Inspired by the dinosaur-themed "Rite of Spring" sequence from Disney 's Fantasia , Spielberg had originally intended for the movie to have no speech, with music cues and body language telling the story, effectively rendering all the characters mute.

In his first appearance, Chomper's voice was provided by Rob Paulsen , although the character's lines mainly consisted of coos and snaps. I do, however, have a difficult time believing that, especially since Chomper clearly states that there isn't much to eat on the Island, he isn't somehow tempted to devour his friends at some point. He then went off to fetch food for the gang after Spike began to eat the flowers. Only Bron, their son-in-law , calls them something different, identifying them as "Papa and Mama Longneck". He is known to sometimes panic easily, particularly when there is risk of someone seeking to harm him. I think the way they showed it in that series would well work out in LBT as well. If he hadn't it would be difficult to explain how he managed to learn "leafeater language" better than even Petrie in just one day, which even happened to be the first in his life. Also, it seems that he has three fingers in the fifth movie instead of his original two fingers in the second movie. Despite this, he is able to use the knowledge he learned to guide them back to the Great Valley. If Chomper would have bitten Cera hard enough to have drawn blood and caused a more serious injury, perhaps the Gang would have been a little more cautious around Chomper, but there is no edivence that he could bite through the thick hide of a dinosaur. But most of the adults had no objection to him living in the Valley or playing with their children, in spite of his carnivorous nature.
Very interesting idea
It is well told.
