Torres Strait Stars cross the sea to compete in Queensland's largest junior rugby league tournament. This week junior players have gathered from 15 remote outer islands on the Torres Strait to compete in Queensland's largest junior rugby league carnival — Townsville's Laurie Spina Shield. For the past two months the unders Strait Stars have trained weekly in smaller groups, many travelling there from even more remote islands by boat. This is the first time many of them have played together, team manager Ella Kris said. That is one of the challenges. They hope to give kids on the outer islands more chances to play together.
