But is it worth the hype? Well I have been taking this in and ruminating on it for a while. So, here are my thoughts on the camera and what this means for Leica and film photography in general.

The film photography world is all a-twitter about the new Leica M6 edition and I love the idea of Leica bringing back the iconic M6. Or is it just an MP in M6 clothing? Hit the jump to watch the video! This is a thorougly modern camera dressed up in M6 clothing. Leica is the only manufacturer currently making 35mm film cameras. So this is kind of a big deal. I like the sense of nostalgia this camera evokes. The red dot says Leitz instead of Leica. Just like the original in The stoic Leitz Wetzlar text along the top plate. They even brought back the plastic box all M6 cameras came in. The whole package makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. And I like it.

The decision is subjective, but based on solid perceptions. The new M6 is a wonderful tool, the perfect companion for the optics that snap into the M bayonet to lock photons precisely into film emulsion. But it is more. It is proof that it is still possible today to build a highly engineered device that will most likely last for decades. The Leica M6 can even be described as an exercise in high-technology, but technology of a type that will last more than a few years. All this, perhaps, that explains my apparent madness.
For more than years, Leica Camera AG has been a synonym for cameras and lenses with permanent values such as reliability, consistency, and quality. This resulted in numerous captured moments which today represent a piece of contemporary history. With the new edition of the legendary rangefinder camera, Leica is now fulfilling the wishes of younger target groups in particular, who want to experience being an active part in the photographic creative process.
