Developed by Dr. Louisa Moats and leaders in the field of literacy, LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the foundational and fundamentals of reading and writing instruction—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language. LETRS addresses four critical outcomes for effective literacy instruction: understanding the science of reading, converting research to practice, enhancing teacher effectiveness, and transforming instruction. LETRS professional learning is relevant and applicable and designed to be the cornerstone of a multiyear, systemic literacy improvement initiative. The New Hampshire Department of Education is excited to announce the launch of its new Leaning Into Literacy initiative , which aims to create literacy champions and advance reading skills among New Hampshire youth. The purpose of these professional learning opportunities is to increase capacity for providing and overseeing reading instruction and Structured Literacy based on the science of how children learn to read. The ultimate objective is to create improved student outcomes and overall academic achievement through prevention of and intervention for reading difficulties, and to identify pupils who struggle to read.
