The replacement of a light bulb or two will restore order. Some manufacturers add a text message in the instrument panel noting exactly which light is out. The symbol is often described as eyelashes coming out of the back of a car! The lines or eyelashes pointing out are meant to represent light. They specifically point to a burned out brake light bulb. There may be a further message in the instrument panel noting the exact bulb. Again, have the light bulb replaced. But I have come across a problem that I cannot find any information or solutions to. Quick background on my car: IS - Manual Problem: The rear lights tail lights malfunction indicator on dashboard, yellow light, indicating a light bulb in one of the tail lights is out comes on whenever I start my car with the foot on the break. One foot on the clutch and one foot on the break. Put keys into ignition and start the car. Malfunction light comes on and stays on.

By bbesser August 22, in 90 - 00 Lexus LS I've been reading the various discussions about how all of the dash indicator lights will come on, which signals a bad alternator. My 'tail light out' indicator slowly came on while driving during the day with lights off but none of the tail lights appear to be burned out. None of the other indication lights have come on though. Is this the early alternator failure warning system or just something in the tail light circuit? I had the same problem. It was a brake light.
