I recently wrote a post about how I sorted through, cataloged, and reorganized all of my books see here: link. Well, most of my books, at least. I had such fun with the cataloging part that I wanted to write an entire post about it. I looked online about how other readers catalog their books, and a lot of them are still doing it by hand, in Word or Excel documents. Backstory: many years ago, I heard about handheld devices that could read the ISBN bar codes from the backs of books and enter them into a computer database. It was a great idea, but so expensive! A lot of them! I did a little research online about which program to use, and ended up choosing Libib. The basic idea behind all of these library database programs is that you have a mobile app that can scan the bar code of a book, recognizes what book it is from their extensive list, and add that book to your personal library database. Setting up an account and getting started on the web and mobile apps was smooth and easy and fast.

Yesterday I reviewed Art Quilts Unfolding: 50 Years of Innovation — this was one of the first books that I added to my new studio library catalogue with Libib. Libib is a cloud-based management tool that catalogues books, movies, music, and video games. The free version allows for up to items in up to libraries. The Pro version has increased functionality for managing lending. This upgraded version is designed for schools, small organisations and power users with bigger collections. It could be handy for guilds looking to upgrade their systems. Beep, beep, beep — it is very quick to run through your shelves and you get to clean off any dust and reacquaint yourself with your books along the way.

This is the first step to begin cataloging your items. Here you can assign your public site URL which is the link you will use to share our collections with others. At the very top of the Publish page a your link is displayed. Use each of the tabs across the top of the Publish page to setup your theme, logo, lending settings, and announcement welcome message. The additional settings are located here: Theme , Settings , and Announcement. Select a title This will be the name of your collection previously known as a library. Select a language This should be the primary language used for this collection and will assist with sorting. You cannot change this setting after the collection is created. You can create up to collections so you can keep languages in separate collections if you want. Choose to optionally publish your collection.
