Pokemon fans remember Meowth as the wily and irreplacable member of Team Rocket, alongside Jesse and James.

Meowth is part of the Team Rocket trio, along with Jesse and James, whose presence throughout the anime is driven by their need to follow Ash and his friends in order for them to try and steal Pikachu. In terms of personality, Meowth is known to be ambitious and conniving, as he has been known to hoodwink Ash and his team in order to lure them into traps several times. Believing Hollywood to be a paradise, he decides to venture there with renewed hopes and dreams--which would be where he finally learned to speak.

Heartbroken, Meowth remembered the first human word he understood—"rocket"—and was inspired to join Team Rocket. In Battle Aboard the St. Anne , Meowth stated that he was Giovanni 's "Top Cat" in front of Giovanni with no objection while noticing that Persian was now in that position. In Training Daze , however, he was shown to have been present at Team Rocket HQ for a short time, during which it is revealed that Persian is already there.

Pikachu will communicate with everything from "pika" to "chu" in a given episode.
