The September Modern metagame is a lot of decks you should recognize and expect, but the format is the most balanced we've seen it in a while. Even deep into Tier 3 we're talking about decks I would strongly consider for upcoming events, and Dominaria United's first results promise some shake-ups in the near future. A quick summary of my tier definitions, since everyone loves to have their own way to rank decks. The Tier 1 decks are the top-of-the-heap decks that are seeing widespread play and winning a lot. If my deck has a bad matchup against any of the Tier 1 decks, that's a warning I should consider rebuilding my deck to fix that matchup or playing something else. In Modern, the Tier 2 decks aren't that far behind Tier 1. These are decks that I expect to see winning a lot, but don't have the same popularity as the Tier 1 decks or are a bit more likely to disappear for a week due to metagame trends. Know how to play and sideboard against them, but a bad matchup against one of these decks is only a problem if you expect your event to be one where that Tier 2 strategy is a good metagame choice. The Tier 3 decks are a mix of fallen greats and unproven newcomers. Make sure you have a general idea of what their decklists are and approximately how you should approach the matchup, but they aren't an immediate priority.

The goal is to unleash a flurry of direct damage as quickly as possible, with an ideal opening hand featuring a turn one Goblin Guide , turn two double Lava Spike , and turn three triple Lightning Bolt for a staggering 21 damage. After you resolve Primeval Titan , there are a variety of ways to seal the game. A different thing to be aware of is that after Tishana's Tidebinder has removed all abilities from a creature, that creature can still gain and keep new abilities with later time stamps, say via Agatha's Soul Cauldron or Not Dead After All.
