But I stopped using it because I read that it kills your mouse feet and also that the surface wears down quickly. Is it actually true that hard mouse pads have those negative traits? However, they do have far less friction than cloth pads and are easier to keep clean. Dust and dirt are the enemies of pads, increasing friction and wear, so keeping pads clean is imperative. I deal with the increased wear on pads by using el cheapo Allsop hard pads I can also buy them locally at Frys or Office Max , clean them frequently by scrubbing them with furniture polish roughly weekly, more often if I've been doing a lot of work , and replacing them every few months maybe two or three times a year once they do wear down. I'm not a gamer so, even though the cheap pads are not as good as other, more expensive pads, they are more cost effective for me and still meet my needs. I eliminated wear on the feet by using a Teflon tape similar to actual mouse tape, only thicker and wider, over the feet and replace the tape every few weeks as needed. The cost per roll is a bit high but a single roll will last for several years in my case, possibly the rest of my life and is a lot cheaper than frequently replacing mouse feet assuming replacement mouse feet are available, which, in the case of my mice, they are not.
