NAOJ is a Japanese astronomy research institute with a global reputation. It explores the mysteries of the Universe using all sorts of instruments, naoj japan, ranging from telescopes and satellites that can measure visible light, radio waves, and gravitational waves from celestial objects to supercomputers that allow for theoretical studies. The mission of the Public Relation Center is to provide the public with timely and accessible information about what is going on at the forefront of astronomy research. Naoj japan information about popular astronomical events, naoj japan, such as solar eclipses and comets, also comprises a major part of our activities.

NAOJ offers astronomers nationwide joint usage of research facilities including observational facilities such as the Subaru Telescope and NAOJ Nobeyama radio telescopes, as well as supercomputers. However, our campuses are not just in Japan. Many faculty members belonging to the Astronomical Science Program stay there long-term for research and engage in education in the Astronomical Science Program. Our institute promotes astronomical research in Japan and holds regular events and open campus as an open research institute. Subaru Telescope consists of the Summit Facility near the summit of Maunakea at an altitude of 4, m and the Hiro Base Facility where research projects, development, and administration are conducted. There is no public transportation to the Hilo Base Facility. Visiting Guide. Leading-edge observational instruments, including the Nobeyama m Radio Telescope, the Nobeyama Millimeter Array, and the Nobeyama Radioheliograph have been established here to pursue various research themes related to the Universe. Once the upgrades are completed, KAGRA will observe gravitational waves emitted from high energy astronomical events such as collisions of black holes in coordination with other large gravitational wave detectors around the world to extend our understanding of the Universe. We also hold regular exhibitions of important historical documents at the Observatory History Museum in combination with the Ephemeris Computation Office.

November 10, Science. Using new data from the James Webb Space Telescope, astronomers have measured the abundance of oxygen in the early Universe. The findings show that the amount of oxygen in galaxies increased rapidly within million years after the birth of the Universe, and has remained as abundant as observed in modern galaxies since then. This early appearance of oxygen indicates that the elements necessary for life were present earlier than expected. In the early Universe, shortly after the Big Bang, only light elements such as hydrogen, helium, and lithium existed. Heavier elements like oxygen were subsequently formed through nuclear fusion reactions within stars and dispersed into galaxies, primarily through events like supernova explosions.

The observatory of the Subaru Telescope was officially established in April , following the completion of its base facility building in Hilo, Hawaii. Due to the difficulty of operating at high altitude, most of the support work for the telescope is conducted in Hilo by a staff of about people. The Hilo Base Facility houses several research laboratories, a library, and extensive computing facilities including a supercomputer.

Activities Publication of the Calendar and Ephemeris We publish information about various heavenly phenomena, such as the apparent positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets. Since , we have conducted this program for NAOJ astronomers to visit elementary and junior-high schools across Japan and conduct classes. Regular Stargazing Parties We hold regular stargazing parties fixed capacity reservation system in urban areas where the city lights hide the night sky, to look up at the Universe overhead and experience the appeal and wonder of astronomy. Reading rooms are located on the 1st and 2nd floors of the South Building. Our institute promotes astronomical research in Japan and holds regular events and open campus as an open research institute. The work of the OAO is about building bridges with the global astronomy community of amateur astronomers, outreach practitioners, educators, communicators, and the public, and through international collaboration, to make the science of astronomy accessible to all. Japan's Public Holidays and Long Weekends in Because there is great interest in calendrical information closely related to everyday life, this material is always made readily available through the Rika Nenpyo Chronological Scientific Tables , the Ephemeris Computation Office website, etc. Visitors are required to reserve the seats before coming.
