In the midst of more conventional fighting games, King of the Monsters was a breath of fresh air. The Pong gameplay is turned into a type of beach volleyball, or tennis game but with more and more levels, each getting harder and faster than the previous. It's a bit slower and a bit more defensive than most beat-em-ups, but once it clicked with me, it became one of my favorite games in the genre. Super Sidekicks 3: The Next Glory is definitely our favorite as it improves upon everything fans saw in the previous two games. However, when you're talking purely about the Neo Geo outings, you'll have to go a long way to beat King of Fighters ' If it's not for you, that's fine.
