If you can't do that, then Google Nest's process is to remove the Google Nest device from the Google Nest app or Google Home app depending on the device while you are still on the old Wi-Fi network , then do a factory reset, and then re-install while on the new Wi-Fi network. If your Nest protect not connecting to WiFi, it is most likely an issue coming either from your own Nest device or the network router. Luckily for you, we have prepared the best solutions to your issue as well as some extra information users reported as important! Then relocate your router or Nest device, hard reset your router and check if your devices are compatible. Lastly, if the app is out of date or not installed correctly, your Nest will also be unable to connect with the WiFi. We recommend applying the solutions in order so you can tackle each possibility, otherwise, you might skip something essential. Firstly, it is good to try reconnecting your Nest Protect to the WiFi. In case the issue happened only one time, maybe reconnecting the device back to the WiFi will fix the issue and prevent it from being disconnected any further. After a few seconds, your Nest protect should reconnect with the WiFi. You should make sure that the firmware of the Nest app is updated. Once the update has been applied, try reconnecting your Nest to the WiFi to determine if the issue is still there.

I work for an electrical contractor and have a client wanting to install the Nest Protect in his home. The local code requires that smoke and CO detectors be interconnected even if Wi-Fi is down. I cannot find any technical information regarding this. Even when the device is disconnected from Wi-Fi, it will stay connected to other Protects in the home and continue to detect smoke and carbon monoxide. If one device detects a smoke or carbon monoxide event, all Protects will still speak a Heads-up alert or sound the alarm.
If the Wi-Fi goes out and your smarthome devices lose connectivity, it's mostly just an inconvenience. However, what about devices that are potential lifesavers, like the Nest Protect? When the internet stops working in your home, a lot of smarthome device functionality disappears until the internet comes back on. Most Wi-Fi cameras, for example, pretty much turn into a brick when they lose connectivity. However, other devices still work just fine, albeit in a more "dumbhome" fashion like smart thermostats. The Nest Protect smart smoke alarm fits in the latter category. Long story short, the smoke detection capabilities of your Nest Protect still work just fine when it loses its connection.
