This may be due to his real-life counterpart being responsible for The Bite of '83, which had him bite down on the Crying Child, Michael's younger brother.

Nightmare Fredbear is a major antagonist and one of the nightmare animatronics of the Five Nights at Freddy's series, first appearing in Five Nights at Freddy's 4 as the main antagonist. He is a nightmarish variant of Fredbear, who is the mascot of the old Fredbear's Family Diner. This tattered and torn bear animatronic has golden fur and wears a purple hat and bow tie. Out of all the nightmare animatronics except for Nightmare , Nightmarionne , and Nightmare Balloon Boy , Nightmare Fredbear appears to be the least damaged. He is slightly stout and bulkier than the other nightmare animatronics. Bearing such monstrous appearance, he is a mottled golden color with various splotches of brown and has many tears and holes in his suit. Furthermore, he has two black buttons on his chest which is similar to BB 's from Five Nights at Freddy's 2. He has a large head with puffy cheeks, exposed gums in dark color, squarish muzzle, and a wide mouth full of long, sharp teeth. His head, like all the other nightmare animatronics, also appears to be separated into two parts. His small eyes are grey and metallic with red irises and has several long wires poking out from each of his eyes in the form of eyelashes. His claws are silver-colored and razor-sharp, keeping with the nightmare animatronic motif. The hands both have exactly the same design as Springtrap and the other nightmare animatronics. Furthermore, his hands are bigger with fingers except for both thumbs colored in brown. As with all the other nightmare animatronics, his kneecaps as well as shoulder pads are missing, and has a large hole located from the lower part of his left thigh.

In Five Nights at Freddy's 2 , the player may rarely encounter what seems to be a shadow or a dark model of Withered Golden Freddy , who is in fact Shadow Freddy. It appears to be in a slumped position, similar to that of Golden Freddy's. It also uses Golden Freddy's model. Within the in-between night mini-games, Shadow Freddy is seen, and utters the phrase "follow me," to lure the animatronics to a secluded spot, so that William Afton may ambush and dismantle them. While the Freddy suit is recognized as purple due to its association with the purple figure, its purple coloration and the darker color of its hat and bowtie lends credit to the theory this particular animatronic is indeed Shadow Freddy. He can also be seen in the office as a harmless easter egg.
