Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is pleased to announce that the newly developed Oak Hill Lawn Cemetery and Crematorium will be holding public open days on the 21 and 23 of September The open days will provide an opportunity for members of the oak hill lawn cemetery and crematorium to visit the cemetery and new crematorium and elude games, and learn more about the services that are available. Set conveniently at the edge of Hatfield against the backdrop of the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, the Lawn Cemetery was founded in and offers both burial and cremation plots. Development of the site was completed earlier this summer to include a new state of the art crematorium and landscaped gardens, oak hill lawn cemetery and crematorium.

The long-awaited opening of Hatfield's Oak Hill Crematorium is set to take place later this month. A lawn cemetery has stood on the site since , but redevelopment has seen a new state-of-the-art crematorium, large chapel for services, and landscaped gardens built. Ahead of the opening, visitors will be able to tour the facilities during two open days, held from 10am to 7pm on Thursday, September 21, and 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 23, with staff also on hand to answer any questions. The scheme comprises a new single storey Crematorium with integral Machinery Store to the south western corner of the existing Lawn Cemetery, operated by the Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. This will be accompanied by new associated car park and supplementary roadside parking within the cemetery curtilage. Some road network alterations and extensive landscaping will form part of the scheme, including the addition of two surface water attenuation ponds. The proposed crematorium is a predominantly braced steel frame with a profiled metal deck roof. To form the chapel, a series of exposed glulam frames will be introduced to create an architectural feature and to support the upper timber roof. To achieve the double height along the chapel, a timber stud wall will be introduced between the lower profiled metal deck roof and the upper timber roof. The timber stud wall will be supported off the steel frame at its base. To form the balcony area inside the chapel, a timber joist floor will be introduced. The timber joist floor will be supported by steel cantilevering beams. The proposed substructure solution will consist of a mm thick RC raft slab with a mm deep edge thickening. Deep excavations for pond and large attenuation tanks. Works adjacent to existing boundary ditch and in area of surface water flood risk.

Oak Hill Cemetery offers a wide variety of options for cremation interments in different locations and at different prices. The current options are listed below and are subject to change. The path begins and ends at the sides of the Historic Renwick Chapel, making access to the site quite desirable. Niches are designed to accommodate two urns with the personalized memorial inscribed on the granite cover. Inscriptions range from artful creations and figures carved into the cover, to names and dates inscribed in a variety of styles.

The service is open to the public and is an opportunity to remember and honour loved ones who have passed away, especially during this festive season. The service will also include readings and Christmas carols, as well as time to reflect. Light refreshments and mince pies will be served after the service.
