He is a member of the race known as the Asgardiansa group of humanoid beings from the pocket dimension of Asgard[15] the Realm Odin comics.

Odin is the son of Bor , the first Asgardian , and the frost giantess Bestella. Bor and Bestella also had two other sons known as Vili and Ve. These were Odin's older brothers. Odin and his two brothers had many adventures in their youth, and as young adults they encountered and banished from Asgard the evil fire-demon who ruled Muspelheim called Surtur. Odin fell in love with the Elder Goddess Gaea and, through her, fathered his first-born and mightiest son; Thor. Thor grew to become a mighty warrior and defeated countless trolls, giants and extra-dimensional beings, enemies of Asgard all, but in doing so became quite arrogant and conceited. Odin, displeased with Thor's distinct lack of humility, exiled Thor from Asgard while making him appear mortal and depowered.

Each time, Thor's willingness to atone for his transgressions, his continued noble intentions, and his bravery, eventually convince Odin to restore his original powers and identity. As ruler and protector of the Asgardian people, Odin has been involved in a number of crises that have threatened Asgard and, on occasion, Earth. Odin has also died three times in defense of Asgard. On the first occasion, Odin is killed by Mangog, and later revived by Hela. The final occasion involves a massive battle against Surtur on Earth, with Odin apparently dying once and for all, when the Odin Force—the source of Odin's power—migrates to his son, Thor. The Odin Force appears to him in humanoid form and says that this was Odin's plan all along.

Odin speaks to Frigga for the final time. Together, the three brothers established Asgardwhich became the home of the gods. Odin and his wife, Friggaalready had a son, Thorodin comics, but they adopted Loki as Thor's brother, using sorcery to odin comics his appearance to that of an Asgardian, and kept the truth of Loki's birth from both of them.
