The desserts are great. The waiter paired the wine with the food and it was excellent. Even thought the interior is pretty simple, the food is excellent. Good wine list, friendly personal and delicious food one of best for this two days in Roma. Highly recommend". Osteria da fortunata
Take me back! Mr John and I have a rule that we try not to eat at restaurants that have menus with English, French, Italian and German flags on them. I want real deal action! Osteria Da Fortunata is a family owned restaurant, passed down from generation to generation. What we loved about it was that they had a mama in the window rolling the pasta! You could watch her make the Italian version of shpatzle, a hand rolled noddle that would be used in your dish that night. The more they needed, the more she rolled. How cool is that? So much so that we went there twice during the 4 nights that we stayed in Rome! The waiters hardly spoke any English, but would ask each other for the translations to that in no time we could figure out what we wanted. They were really friendly and I really loved the interactions. One the first night I decided to have some of the pasta I saw being made in the window. Bacon and artichoke pasta, something nice and Italian!
Best dining experience of our trip.
If you want to eat well in a big city like Rome, it pays to do a little homework before you go. Generally, the restaurants smack bang in amongst the main tourist sights are the most expensive places to eat, and the least authentic. Nothing taints a good holiday more than a bad meal! Especially in Italy! On our last trip to Rome I spent hours and hours researching some prospective restaurants. This little place, Osteria Da Fortunata, came up time and time again, so I decided to book ahead.
We visited the restaurant after both research into Romes best restaurants and after a local recommendation. After a short queue of about 20 minutes we were seated outside. The ambience of the restaurant is quaint but very busy and manic and I feel it is I appreciate when people are waiting to experience the food, from a business sense there will be pressure to turn over tables however the whole service felt rushed and not particularly special. Waited knocked into us whilst rushing round, did not ask us if we wanted any more drinks after the first ones were finished and generally neglected us after our initial orders were taken. I have been debating what to rate the experience, however the food has bumped it up from a 3 to a 4 star. The food was very good, not cheap but not horrendously priced and for the quality was good value for money. It was flavoursome, filing and fresh however I do not believe it will be worlds away from other good local restaurants. I am not disappointed we went and we left feeling we had experienced good food, however if you are looking for more than food in the sense of a relaxing night out for occasion or holiday and was to soak in the atmosphere and not feel rushed then this is not the place.

The gnocchi promodoro was excellent and the ravioli we had was ok. I am a writer, traveller, cook and eater. We turned off the Campo onto Via del Pellegrino to see a woman wearing a bandana and apron, hand rolling pasta inside the front window. When we did eventually get served, they forgot several items from our order. Post Context. Welcome to my little Italian kitchen in sunny Australia. The waiters hardly spoke any English, but would ask each other for the translations to that in no time we could figure out what we wanted. One of the best gnocchi that I have ever had! Ishan September 26, Best platform out there! We found the place easy enough, right off Campo de Fiori, which was a bit of a worry because I find the best restaurants are usually not quite so close to the main piazzas.
