It's so well written, that it can be frighteningly realistic at times, so please proceed with caution. The backgrounds are even better than the character designs. The whole bird thing is, in my opinion, a way for the reader to have no pre conceptions about the mc, as you really have no idea what he looks like. I suppose, in the end, one way of looking at things is that two thirds of the story is good, but I have to ask what could have been with just a little bit more polish. Without spoiling anything there are certain turns in the story that had me sort of confused. There were various people coming into and out of the limelight of the manga: a mother, a father, aspiring artists, would-be lovers, dimwits, geniuses, manics, musicians. Some of my favorite characters are Sachi, Punpun, Seki, and the uncle, they are all great and I loved Seki's side story especially. Wasn't a fan of seeing pedophilia in action to be honest, why does every single person have to be fcked up.

In fact, with the exception of that regarding a certain religious organization, all symbolism and exposition in Oyasumi Punpun is delivered rather clumsily. The manga really only gets interesting at the end. Previous -. There was never a moment that I felt like the story was dragging on or that a certain character had too much 'screen time'. Instead Goodnight Punpun is left in an awkward middle ground where it is too spectacular to be ordinary and too ordinary to be spectacular. You could read the beginning and immediately jump to the final act without losing anything of great value. I wonder what Wada's planning on doing? Last but not least, it's the ending; I expected fireworks, but a fart is all I got.
