Ok, so my intrepid is stumping me hard on this. It will crank and start perfectly fine. Shut it off, sit for a sec, crank and crank. Key off and back on, starts hard but runs perfect. Then it will start fine a few times. I had this issue before vacation, and coming back I jumped in it and it fired right up no hesitation.

Although it is a generic code, the specific repair steps may vary depending on the year, make, model, and powertrain configuration of the vehicle. When a code P is stored, it indicates that the powertrain control module PCM has detected an abnormality in the relay that supplies it with voltage. In this case, the relay sensor circuit is open, which can be interpreted as disconnected. It is a contact type relay that is activated by a signal wire from the ignition switch. This type of relay typically has a five-wire design. One wire carries constant battery voltage, another wire is for ground, a third wire carries a signal from the ignition switch, a fourth wire supplies voltage to the PCM, and the fifth wire is the power relay sense circuit. The PCM uses the power relay sense circuit to monitor the voltage of the power relay. If the PCM detects an open power relay sense circuit, it will store a code P and may illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp MIL. A P code should be considered severe and addressed accordingly. Delayed or no start Inoperative electrical accessories Engine drivability issues. You will also need a reliable source of vehicle information that provides diagnostic flow charts, wiring diagrams, connector face views, connector pin-out charts, and component locators.
I agree with Brian on taking a look at the O2 sensors.

P is a relatively rare OBD2 trouble code. While any car or truck can have this code, it is most prevalent in vehicles made by Chrysler. If your vehicle is still running with this code, we strongly recommend against driving with it. If the PCM power relay fails, your vehicle will not run properly. They stand for engine control module and powertrain control module, respectfully. When you have P, it has detected an open circuit. An open circuit is a circuit that has not been completed. With this code, most of the time, the engine will not start or run.

If this happens to your ride, we get your concern, but the key piece of advice is not to drive around too much with the code and figure out a solution quickly. Find out more about OBD2 codes research process. So, there could be issues regarding the engine due to poor power supply, and you may not even be able to start your car after some time. Plus, it could trigger electrical issues and lead to reduced power output which are all causes for concern. In case this issue leads to the code in your car, you may notice some symptoms like engine stalling, problems starting the car, or uneven idling RPM range. Damaged wiring or connectors can also cause the P code.

There is only one common connection from all 4 O2 heaters. Or they can just waist time working on it and never fix it. Although it is a generic code, the specific repair steps may vary depending on the year, make, model, and powertrain configuration of the vehicle. Any help will be appreciated. Although, they already replaced the ECM and it did not fix the problem. Jump to Latest Follow. This is the first BIG issue i've had with it. This input is used only to sense that the ASD relay is energized. Since you had the other issue also at the same time, maybe not in this case though Top Contributors this Month View All. I once saw a faulty O2 sensor cause issues like you'r description.

Could a bad starter be the cause of my problem? I verified the relay clicks when the jeep is put to the run position. Full throttle to the solution. If constant or switched voltage is not present at the power relay connector, trace the appropriate circuit back to the fuse or relay from which it originates. The outputs are from 2 different PCM connectors so maybe check that. Ask Cancel. I mean really, to tell me that my HIDs caused this problem is bizarre to me Check the running pressure. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. I will be ordering a spare crank sensor just to have since they are cheap. All above told the truth. We can communicate on this theme. Here or in PM.
