I was driving my normal commute home from work the other night when my Ridgeline as it seemed to occur in this order to me kicked on the the check engine, VTM-4 dash light, and I believe the exclamation point within the triangle light. Luckily I wasn't far from home, but I couldn't seemingly get out of the high gear and had no throttle power. I basically coasted home and when I got there, turned the truck off for about five minutes, turned it back on and everything seemed normal, except of course the check engine light staying on?

The guy at Auto Zone told me to join a forum and get some opinions about this before I dump a ton of money at the shop which I don't have. Car has a little over K miles. I will finally be working again soon and plan on getting a new car so I need to know what to do in the meantime. I have two small children, safety is priority number 1. As our mechanic explains in the video above , a gas pedal has two APP sensors to essentially serve as fail-safes for each other in case one triggers an error code. He uses an OBD-II scan tool to look at the data for both sensors to see whether the sensors are working normally. You can see if the data correlates by watching it on your scan tool as you press the gas with your car parked. We recommend addressing the issue causing code P as soon as possible. If the data changes, that indicates the issue is stemming from the pedal itself and not the sensor wires. You can also watch the data being graphed while you wiggle the wires to see if the data changes, which would indicate a wiring or connector issue is triggering P Disconnect the connector to further inspect it, and check for any corrosion in the terminals.

However, like all vehicles, the Honda Pilot is not immune to issues, and one of the most common problems that Honda Pilot owners encounter is related to the P error code. The ECM disables the throttle response whenever this occurs and displays an illuminated warning light. An electronic throttle control system in a modern vehicle consists of an accelerator pedal position sensor and an internal motor that is controlled by an electronically controlled throttle body. Two embedded throttle position sensors further enhance this, and the ECM monitors the entire process. A sensor sends the ECM information regarding desired throttle opening in response to the accelerator pedal depressing.
