Dipper initially hated Pacifica, as she always made Mabel feel bad and he thought she was so stuck up. In order to cheer Mabel up, Dipper led Mabel down a forgotten conspiracy which revealed that Pacifica's ancestor, Nathaniel Northwest, wasn't actually the town's founder, and was actually a waste solving idiot who died trying to eat an oak tree to prove he was a "powerful wizard". When the time came to reveal this to Pacifica, Mabel decided not to, having learned that it doesn't matter what others think of you so long as you are happy with yourself. Dipper on the other hand hadn't learned anything, and promptly shows Pacifica that her family name was built on lies, much to her horror and Dipper's delight. While the twins are at the local mini golf course, Pacifica arrives and starts showing off. Dipper tried to cut her down a peg by reminding Pacifica her family legacy was false, but Pacifica is unaffected, stating that money solved that problem. Mabel then challenged Pacifica to a golf match at midnight. During their practice, Dipper and Mabel discovered that the golf holes are controlled by little creatures called Lilliputtians. Seeing that each hole has its own rivalry with the other, Dipper comes up with the idea to take advantage of their rivalries and bribe them into making it so Pacifica lost the match. Mabel is initially hesitant about this, considering it cheating, but Dipper points out that, since Pacifica is rich, she's "cheating at life".

Dipper and Mabel are normal 16 year-olds. While attending a dance party, Dipper has an encounter with Pacifica.

It is one of the more popular pairings for the respective characters, competing with popular ships such as Wendip and Mabifica. Although Dipifica wasn't nonexistent pre-season 2, it didn't gain a large following until Pacifica-centric episodes The Golf War and Northwest Mansion Mystery. The episodes revealed that Pacifica is not genuinely a brat but just negatively influenced and sheltered by her parents. Towards the end of the episodes, she mellows more towards the Pines as well, bonding with one of them in each episode. The appeal of Dipcifica is that both Dipper and Pacifica can be their better selves with one another, with Dipper being confident in his abilities, and Pacifica being nicer. The ship also has several things that makes it more convincing than any other non-canon ships with Dipper, unlike with Wendy where he used to always place her at a pedestal and acts very awkward around her, Dipper doesn't respect Pacifica's status, and as such he doesn't feel the need to act unnecessarily nice or cool to her and vice versa, and is more than comfortable in being honest with his opinions with her.

Nobody on Gravity Falls —heck, maybe no other character on television—is more totally comfortable in her own skin than Mabel. The only slight problem is that such a character, kind of by definition, has to be awfully one-dimensional. Unlike his sister, Dipper is decidedly not comfortable in his own skin, but at his best this moves beyond simple pre teen awkwardness. Indeed, while each sibling can be fiercely protective of the other, Dipper probably edges his sister on that point, and that made it easier to incorporate Dipper into previous Mabel and Pacifica stories; he needed no motivation beyond a well-established need to defend and help his sister. I was shocked that Dipper so completely followed through on his vow, yet that resolute reaction set the stage for all their subsequent interactions. The main reason I say I was shocked by Dipper telling off Pacifica is that there is one main circumstance in which Dipper will be a total hypocrite, and that brings us back to his hormones. Even then, Dipper and Mabel barely interact past the first five minutes; from a storytelling perspective, Mabel only matters inasmuch as she convinces Dipper to help out Pacifica, and then her presence allows for that goofy B-plot with her, Candy, and Grenda competing over that dreamy young Austrian noble. She is legitimately terrified of her parents, and that dang bell is more unnerving than a more overt threat. The A.
