The result is a much more defined engagement of gears. The shifter feels really normal and when getting back into any other manual cruiser the gear lever travel seems excessive.

Took a little getting used to and it was a little harder to get in gear as a pose to just sliding in with the stock setup. I then had a ceramic double disc installed, whole new ballgame. Went from a little hard to pushing really hard to get into gear, it also has a kind of "wait" time to it before she finally slams into gear. Made it miserable to shift after the double disk so i went back to stock throw much nicer. Got the short throw kit sitting on my tool bench just collecting dust now. I say stick with the stock throw. We constantly strive to bring the best products to the market and try to innovate where we see a need or development potential. Regarding the PDI short shifter, we are very pleased with the result with function, but have realised one area of the design that could be improved. The shifter works by raising the upper pivot fulcrum point to change the throw of the shifter significantly. This required a reducing in the ball diameter and we were able to change from the H gearbox box bushing to the smaller R bushing, which itself gave design challenges and a thinner wall thickness over the upper section of the inner sleeve. The pins located in the side of the upper section are designed to stop the stick from rotating so the greater the bend in the stick and aggressiveness of the shifts , the more side load is placed on the pins.

I also have a sbdd and you don't get in any hurry shifting. Curious to see if I can go from making a cuppa between shifts to something more of a whiff of something. It's the R box on the later versions I believe. I say stick with the stock throw. You must log in or register to reply here. With the stock one there's more leeway and no so tight that it doesn't grind as much and is easier to get in gear with it being sloppier. It's a seesaw lever so if we put a spacer under the housing and made the lower lever longer I've never seen it so I'm just waffling but if welding isn't and option The thought of metal parts freely moving in the gearbox sounds really bad, but there are many, many stories of dropped bolts and broken teeth in the bottom of the manual gearbox which have resulted in no further damage over many thousands of km driven.
