Ludwig is a main character in the Pearlie series. He is the assistant of Saphira and one of the main antagonists. Ludwig is a dark grey common bat with yellow eyes. He wears black glasses along with a red necktie. This Dracula wannabe has two secrets: one he's blind without his glasses; and two, he's infatuated with Saphira, though she's the one blind to that. Ludwig never lets anyone see him without his glasses on, which leads to much slapstick as he obeys Saphira's requests for him to scare the residents of the park. His blind flights have a Kamikaze style to them that most people think is intentional, even though he's just trying to find a place to land. He does enjoy the fear he causes, but wishes he didn't have to crash into walls to do it. In his private moments, he studies books on romance and poetry trying to find the right way to tell Saphira how he really feels. Ludwig is the dimwitted loyal sidekick and assistant to Saphira. He is often seen assisting Saphira in her evil plans to try to sabotage Pearlie 's reputation.
