So how did these clubs perform?

And that love continued in the hands of our test team who raved about the mix of power, forgiveness and feel. The G15 features a seven per cent larger face than the 10 model and this, coupled with the External Sole Weight Pad, means it is more forgiving than before as well as also being lower-spinning — so even better players can take advantage. Leon preferred the looks of the i15 but admitted that was no reason not to put this one in the bag, commenting particularly on the solid feel and forgiveness while John returned one of his best dispersion ratings with no compromise on distance — exactly what a player of his handicap is looking for. Undoubtedly a worthy winner to round off a Ping first and second! Ratings out of 5 : Looks : 4. An external weight pad at the back of the club helps to move the centre of gravity lower and further away from the face, meaning a powerful launch.

The intention of this design is to make the player set up to hit this hybrid the same way they would with a regular iron. Perimeter weighting is provided by a large internal toe pad in order to provide forgiveness and assists in locating the center of gravity low and close to the face for a high launch and low spin. In fact, PING is calling the G15 their longest and most forgiving hybrid to date, thanks to the previously mentioned toe pad. Esthetics Again, the G15 hybrid looks much like a driving iron, but with a shortened, curving black head. The head design is very much a departure from its previous-generation, fairway wood-inspired G10 counterpart. The thickness of the face is immediately visible, as a couple of millimeters of grey steel face extend at the crown. The sole is mostly flat and clean, with the weight pads, the signature PING logo, the loft of the club, and the G15 stamping all in the red and black common to the G15 line being the only markings visible on the polished sole.

Did everybody notice that K. GolfSpy-I appreciate your comments and it all holds true, except for the adjustability factor.

If the G10 provides maximum forgiveness then what do you call an iron that provides even more forgiveness? PING calls it the G For me, I imagine the silky smooth feel of the sweet spot. I visualize the ball curving through the air at will. I can almost see the ball falling to the green with just enough spin to bounce twice and then stop. They might look down desperately searching for that microscopic sweet spot, trembling at the thought of the painful reverberations of a mis-hit.

The PING G15 irons are ideal for anyone looking for top-quality game-improving irons that will aid their progression. The large heads produce a penetrating flight, particularly compared with many game-improvement irons, which tend to hit the ball very high, but lose distance. While the thick sole undoubtedly helps get the ball up and away, we found that this made them quite hard to hit from tight lies. My gap wedge was not part of the G10 set, was another famous brand of wedge, and I learned to hate it, so I decided to replace it with the G15 gap wedge. I was leaning heavily toward the Burner set.
