Pizza pilgrims review

So I wrote a little review for Pizza pilgrims review Pilgrims a few weeks ago which was not as positive as the owners, Thom and James Elliot, might have hoped for. After reading the review, pizza pilgrims review, I was invited back to re-review and to meet one half of the duo, Thom. The first branch of Pizza Pilgrims opened in Soho a few years ago, followed by a second in Kingly Court, opened a couple of months ago.

Banh Mi 11 , a stand serving up Vietnamese baguettes, is one of my favourites as is Pizza Pilgrims. This stand cooks its thin Neapolitan-style hand-tossed pizzas to order using a gas-fired oven in the back of a converted Robin Reliant. The three item menu changes daily, so not all of the pizzas detailed below will always be on sale but the basic cheese and tomato margarita, which forms the basis of almost all the other pizzas, is always available. The spicy salami pizza uses thin horizontal strips of salami that are predominately salty with only a very mild chilli kick every now and again. The crispy thin base was fluffy on the inside, but it was a little too chewy in places and a bit greasy too. If the base of the spicy salami pizza was a mixed bag, then it was an unconditional triumph in the nduja and rocket pizza.

It was the first day back at work after the New Year, so my friend and I owed ourself decent dinner plans to help us get through the day. Meeting at Oxford Circus, and popping into Libertys to collect my diary beforehand I was ready to kick off how I meant to go on — by eating good food. The kitchen and pizza oven is on the ground floor of the restaurant surrounded by a few high tables and stalls. We were taken to a table in the basement where the majority of the table seating was. It was close to 7pm on a Thursday and the space must have been half full. By the time our food was being served most tables were taken. But only as we were ordering we were told there were no more available! Heartbroken lol my dining partner and I decided to keep things simple and go for the Bufala , margherita with buffalo mozzarella. Arriving at our table on a plate smaller than the pizza the tomato cheesy goodness looked to die for. The base was doughy and had the charcoaly flavour to it that you get when things are cooked in a wood fire oven. The tomato sauce was rich in flavour and tasted delicious combined with the milky buffalo mozzarella cheese. Not really knowing what to expect we were presented with a ring of warm pizza dough stuffed with chocolate and cheese and sprinkled with icing sugar. The inside of it was sweet, smooth, nutty, salty and warm. Perhaps a little sickly for some — but we both enjoyed it. I really enjoyed our meal at Pizza Pilgrims — it was the perfect place for a catch up.

Ultimately, Pizza Pilgrims is worth the journey if you want to try some less-common toppings. Loading Comments

After giving the restaurant a while to settle into being the new kid on the block, I wanted to see how it matched up to the better-established pizza chain just down the street. There is a large mural of an Italian coastline view, with houses nestled in together overlooking a deep blue sea — so as long as you keep your eyes inside the restaurant, there's plausible deniability.
