I read it was because a lot of people complained about the fact that the first pocahontas ii 1998 gave the impression Pocahontas and John Smith would eventually stay together or that he had died and, to erase the critics, they decided to make this film to clarify everything. Yes, pocahontas ii 1998, in reality she ended up with John Rolfe, but -bleep- reality. Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World is a American direct-to-video animated musical adventure film and the sequel to the Disney film Pocahontas. While the first film dealt with her meeting with John Smith and the arrival of the British settlers in Jamestown, the sequel focuses on Pocahontas 's journey to England with John Rolfe to negotiate for peace between the two nations, although her death is omitted from the film's ending. In London , John Smith is ambushed by a group of soldiers with a warrant for his arrest and presumed dead in the ensuing confrontation; Governor Ratcliffe has lied to King James being a personal friend of the King and framed Smith as the traitor from the first film in a plot to declare war against the Powhatan Nation and get hold of the gold he still believes them to possess, all while avoiding punishment for his own crimes. In order to prevent war, the King sends a young diplomat, John Rolfe , to bring Chief Powhatan to England for negotiations. John Rolfe soon arrives, greeted by English civilians who by now have settled in Jamestown and a curious Pocahontas. Rolfe eventually speaks with Powhatan, but he refuses to accompany him to England, so Pocahontas goes in her father's stead, believing that she can bring about peace between the two nations.
The film is inspired by the true events of Pocahontas after her encounter with John Smith. While in the first film her romance is focused on John Smith, the sequel involves her deep romantic love and affection for the Englishman that she had married in real life, known as John Rolfe. Pocahontas' death is omitted from the ending and she returns to the New World instead. Set several years after the original film circa , John Smith voiced in the sequel by Donal Gibson has been presumed dead in a plot by Governor Ratcliffe , the villain from the original film, to declare war against the Powhatan Nation back in the New World. In order to prevent such a happening, a young diplomat, John Rolfe, is sent to bring Chief Powhatan to King James for negotiations. In the New World, Pocahontas's old friend Nakoma seems to be married. Pocahontas is still mourning John Smith's death.

By Joe Leydon. Pic is too bland and formulaic to arouse much interest from discerning adults, but small children — particularly those who greatly enjoyed its bigscreen predecessor — will doubtless want to play it again and again. Expect good, if not spectacular, sell-through and rental numbers. After a brief setup in colonial Jamestown, sequel follows Pocahontas voiced by Irene Bedard on a voyage to England, where she hopes to dissuade the king from ordering a British-Indian war. John Rolfe Billy Zane , a handsome royal emissary, serves as guide, host and traveling companion for the beautiful stranger in a strange land. Inevitably, the Native American and the English gentleman are attracted to each other. Ratcliffe has convinced the king that all Indians in and around Jamestown are dangerous savages. Not surprisingly, Ratcliffe tries to sabotage her entrance into high society. The character movements are less fluid, the backgrounds less detailed and the colors far less vibrant.

The cartooning is dreadful - James I is portrayed as a ninny, who makes the old Bugs Bunny parody of Charles Laughton as Nero look like a Holbein portrait. My recommendation is if you can find Pocahontas cheaper than the Pocahontas and Pocahontas II version, just buy Pocahontas and don't waste your money to get both. One person found this helpful. Whereas the original songs were lovely and stuck in your mind, these were entirely forgettable and made me cringe most times. So, why do kids love Disney? Con's: The film's story is bland, I felt like there was barely any love from the first film, the song's were mostly short and unmemorable mostly because Alan Menken did not return, and the sidekicks, Meeko and Percy, were not that funny. The Scorpion King: Book of Souls It goes on and on - half the time I think they put in songs because a song will take up 3 or 4 minutes, and will use up more time than a spoken line. The animation isn't as stunning as the original, but my advice to all of you is to watch it with low expectations,as there is a beautiful ballroom scene, even if the rest of the rest of the film lacks detail and precision. Pretty much every character here is rather blandly written as none of them come to life or give any energy to the movie. They didn't even fully revive Pocahontas's personality for this film, as soon as you see her she acts much different than she did in the original but with the same basic values.

And anyway, Disney, since the first "Pocahontas" had decided to modify the real story. This one sucks: not because of the story itself, because this one follows what happened to her, but because of the graphics, the songs, the dialogs Running time. But it's awful they changed the composers and it's just to make the movie longer.
