Mascots are defined as being the characters or symbols representative of a certain team or group. Point Park chose a mascot in , the first year that it allowed its sports teams to compete intercollegiately with other four year institutions. The school brought him to parades and certain sporting events where he was wildly popular. Even after his eventual death, the university bought a monument to the mascot that is on display in the Academic Hall Lobby.

Point Park University is a private university in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania. Formerly known as Point Park College , the school name was revised in to reflect the number of graduate programs being offered. In , it had a total undergraduate enrollment of 2, students. The university began in as a one-room business school called Business Training College with an initial enrollment of 50 students, under the direction of Dorothy Finkelhor , a New York native, and her husband, L. Herbert Finkelhor. At the time, it was notable for a woman to found such an institution. Finkelhor provided her students with business and secretarial skills. At the same time, she served in multiple roles as teacher, the dean of women, social chairman, janitor, telephone operator, admissions and finance director, and registrar.

Throughout its history, Point Park University has taken pride in its urban roots and contributions to the vitality of Downtown Pittsburgh. The University began as a small business training college in under the direction of Dorothy Finkelhor and L. Herbert Finkelhor. By , the business school had grown to more than students and moved into the building now known as Academic Hall, on Wood Street in Downtown Pittsburgh. The junior college soon added programs in engineering technology, education, and journalism, and acquired performing arts space at The Pittsburgh Playhouse in the Oakland neighborhood.
