The original three starters of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle set the standard all the way back in or in Japan. Little did we know then that every subsequent generation would be compared to the now iconic trio. All three are prime examples of what a grass, fire, and water type starter should be. The only second generation starter to make the S grade, Totodile is right up there with Squirtle as the best water type starter. The looks, the charm, and the fighting ability. Just look at that face. Although three of our S-Tier starters are fire types, the majority of them land in the bottom half of this list. Much better than the average starter, but without that little bit extra to push over into S territory. Still, you could do a lot worse than Cyndaquil, as you spend hundreds of hours in a game. They do slightly look like animals, but they also have their own color schemes, patterns and features. Both are blue, indicating their types well, but with other slight colors that make them stand out. Ah maybe I should go to university exams with a Mudkip cosplay now. Mudkip is so perfect I would still look good. If Wooloo was a starter, he would also be in this tier. Honestly Generation 1 starters are very hard to rank.
