In November I had my transaxle, and engine coolant oils changed and the shop noted my coolant was low. I was told most folks wait until the water pump goes out and at that point it's a much bigger expensive issue.

I hate trying to fix things that aren't broken. But I am sick of hearing this water pump issue. I recently met a guy I haven't seen for a long time. He also was driving a Gen3 Prius. We shared how much we love this car and what we each had done to it. I got everything done from his check list except the water pump.

My all of a sudden had no cabin heat, and the temp indicator was behaving erratically. I took it to the shop and they said there was a loose radiator cap and air had gotten into the system. They bled the system and it is working fine. The shop said it needed a new water pump, but did to tell me how they made this determination. So is it time to replace it anyhow , miles?

Still thinking I might get the compression test if it will tell me where the leak is The other coolant level is just above the full mark. Is there anything else I should be concerned may be wrong? Clean your coolant reservoir off and make sure it's not leaking. This protects the engine and other essential parts from overheating. Probably best to do the coolant pump at the same time, since the coolant will be drained. However there is dried up pink stuff around the tank that wasn't previously there. That said, K miles, not a bad time to change the coolant pump. If it ends up being a difficult isolation process, fully removing the engine undercover until the problem is resolved may make it easier to inspect things. If your vehicle has a manual drive belt tensioner, loosen the lock nut before turning the adjuster screw. Did the car ever overheat?

Quality Service. Proceed to drain the old coolant by lowering the radiator hose safest method or opening the radiator drain petcock. Is there anything else I should be concerned may be wrong? If your water pump stops working I'm pretty sure you will overheat fairly quickly. We come to you with all the necessary tools and parts. Don't know what it's billed at, but if you can buy the part and find someone to put it in you could save a few hundred. Eddie25 My guess is the coolant is leaking unless my theory of it overflowing due to being overfilled has any merit. This force creates a suction that allows the pump to receive coolant from the radiator and send it to the engine. The car has never shown any signs of any issue, no overheating, no engine lights, no weird noises.
