The Sarasota Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating an officer-involved shooting following a robbery attempt Tuesday at a Publix parking lot in Sarasota. Sarasota Police said officers responded near Beneva and Fruitville roads for a report of a robbery just after 10 a. Several minutes later, shots were fired, the police department said. Authorities said an year-old woman had finished shopping at the Publix on Beneva Road and was pushing her groceries to her car. After unloading the cart, the victim told police she was approached by the suspect, a year-old man from Sarasota who tried to take her purse off her shoulder. The victim struggled with the suspect and said he had something shiny in his hand and that he threatened her with it. Police said a witness saw what was happening and tried to help.
