One of several NPCs that can be interacted with in Hollow Knight , Quirrel is an inquisitive individual that introduces themselves as an explorer. Speaking to Quirrel after a specific boss fight will also reward players with The Witness achievement. After marveling at the structure of the Temple, Quirrel will mention that he has chosen the perfect time to explore Hallownest as the kingdom is springing back to life. Next, players will encounter Quirrel at the Lake of Unn in Greenpath. Inside a small hut will be a bench where players can rest, and Quirrel will be cleaning his Nail.

Quirrel is one of the first NPCs you will meet in the kingdom of Hallownest. First found in the Black Egg Temple, you can find him in various other places around the map. He is a pill-bug who is known as an explorer, as well as a very intelligent scholar who knows much about Hallownest. Quirrel is also extremely skilled at wielding a nail. He acts as a kindhearted and optimistic guide to the Knight, appearing in various locations throughout the Kingdom. Just like the Knight, Quirrel is an amnesiac and doesn't remember Hallownest, or his unknown association with Monomon the Dreamer, despite being a part of it in the past. His past is shrouded in mystery that is not made clear in the game. Quirrel is very enigmatic, though incredibly kindhearted, optimistic, and helpful to those he meets, including the Knight, who he guides. He has a calm and peaceful disposition, and although he wields a sharp nail and is an extremely skilled warrior and nail-wielder, he is pacifistic and only ever fights to protect himself and others such as the Knight when he assists him. Shortly after this event, Quirrel remembers small parts of his past. He mysteriously vanishes from Hallownest after his final appearance at the Blue Lake where all that remains is his nail. This roly-poly pill-bug is a saint.

Found along the path leading to Greenpath. He is held in the mandibles of a Vengefly King, and the Knight has the choice to either save him or leave him. If saved, he complains that the Knight got in the way between him and his "prey", he introduces himself and boasts about his supposed mighty deeds. If he is not saved before acquiring the Mantis Claw, he dies in this location, with his nail and shell remaining. Hitting his shell here grants the Neglect achievement.

Zote can be found in a corridor leading back to the storerooms of the City of Tears. He has forgotten the Knight and introduces himself again. Found stuck in spider webs, presumably having been captured by the beasts of Deepnest.

Even though a sequel to the indisputably popular indie Metroidvania was inevitable, Hollow Knight: Silksong could be more than just a follow-up to its predecessor and might instead be aiming to build out a franchise in light of its success.
They retain their intellect and their honour, though also their lethal traditions. Keep continuing on the story? So tense and thrilling. This dead world has sprung to life. In this place, you're either alert or you're dead. They're not brutes though, no. Once Uumuu has been defeated, players can find a large seemingly empty tank and Quirrel will join them here. Her grove is referred to as the "source of acid blight. After leaving the room, Quirrel disappears. Did he drowned himself in the Blue Lake? All in aid of you. Quirrel can be found here taking in the sights and expressing admiration for the old transport tunnels. Thank you Herr Moss for pointing out Quirrel's inspirational mantra.
