Ruth is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Centre for Brain Research at the University of Auckland. Research Interests: The focus of Ruth's research lies in the identification of early indicators of neurodegenerative conditions within human cell culture systems. Of particular interest to Ruth is Parkinson's disease, a complex neurodegenerative disorder. Their objective is to employ innovative cell culture systems to pinpoint and understand the initial pathogenic mechanisms that initiate the progression of neurodegenerative conditions. Given that individuals with Parkinson's often experience impaired olfactory function years before the onset of motor symptoms, Ruth regards the olfactory system as a promising therapeutic target to potentially impede the spread of pathology.
