Like many of us with the textured "fuzzy" black engine paint, I have a few places where the paint is coming off. I had the engine cases replaced under warranty many years ago, but the transmission, bevel, and other miscellaneous parts are also painted with the original factory textured finish. So I've been looking around at various paint products, and wondered if anyone has tried any that are a good match to the factory finish and durable. When tasked with re-doing my '02 motor, I opted for a satin finish non-wrinkle paint, ie; Ford engine paint. The wrinkle finishes require heat to wrinkle. Didn't want to bake my motor, or mess with trying out other options. I used rattle cans, high heat paint and primer. Not the hardest finish, but works for me. Looks great. Not sure how well this would match the texture on your black fuzzy engine, but I really love this stuff:. I used it to re-paint the aluminum lid on one of my Rizoma brake fluid tanks. For spot touchups would probably work really well The texture comes out looking sort of like leather grain, like on cameras and professional electronics from the 80s.

The finish looks and feels like it will last me a long time. Hi Al, I used the Harley texture paint back in ' After all, tinkering to get the sound you want is very much part of owing any banjo. I didn't really want to put up with the hassle of repacking, shipping, and the 2 weeks or so of turn around. I play clawhammer, and it has a very appropriate tone for it. Very attractive instrument, modeled after the prewar Granadas. It came set up very nice. I called Elderly and they offered to authorize my return of the piece for replacement. Adjust the head, make sure everything is tight and action is low, then set the bridge and intonation, tune it and play. No setup that I am aware of, but after getting 6 banjos in a month, I have learned the basics. I play Scruggs-style, and it is exactly what i was looking for -- a bright, crackling tone, but with enough guts and deep-end, as well.
