Edit Source Print. About Contact Legal. Most of you are probably completely new to the Spheres of Power and Spheres of Might systems. Before you go off and explore the site, here's a quick rundown of what this content is, who tends to enjoy it, and answers to some common questions that people have. Spheres of Power is the bigger change of the two in that it offers an entirely new casting system where you pick a selection of magic talents similar to spells known and spend spell points similar to spell slots to create magical effects. The effects are divided into different spheres, which function similarly to spell schools in the core casting rules. For example, if you want to create a Fireball-like effect, you'll find options in the Destruction sphere. If you want to heal your allies, you'll be looking at the Life sphere. In some cases, you can Augment a spell when you cast it. This is similar to spending a higher-level spell slot in the core casting rules and provides some type of improved effect. You can also combine certain talents to change the way the spell functions. For example, while you can create a Fireball-type attack with the right options in Destruction, you can also learn to imbue existing weapons with elemental damage and attack that way instead. The other big thing to know about Spheres of Power is that it utilizes Casting Traditions.
This class is a good choice if you don't want to be trapped in one role too much, r/dnd, or if you have a complicated character concept that would be hard to represent without r/dnd a split in your abilities, r/dnd. The Conscript is Spheres of Might's version of the Incanter. A character using these rules known as a "practitioner" can create alchemical concoctions, intercept attacks with a shield, set traps, or shout commands across the battlefield, r/dnd other options.

The game was derived from miniature wargames , with a variation of the game Chainmail serving as the initial rule system. These characters embark upon adventures within a fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master DM serves as referee and storyteller for the game, while maintaining the setting in which the adventures occur, and playing the role of the inhabitants of the game world, known as non-player characters NPCs. The characters form a party and they interact with the setting's inhabitants and each other. Together they solve problems, engage in battles, explore, and gather treasure and knowledge. In the process, player characters earn experience points XP to level up, and become increasingly powerful over a series of separate gaming sessions. These 3rd edition rules formed the basis of the d20 System , which is available under the Open Game License OGL for use by other publishers. It is normally played indoors with the participants seated around a tabletop. Typically, one player takes on the role of Dungeon Master DM while the others each control a single character, representing an individual in a fictional setting. The results of the party's choices and the overall story line for the game are determined by the DM according to the rules of the game and the DM's interpretation of those rules.
