He is the god of death alongside his brother, Reapertale Papyrus. He was created by the god of magic, Gaster. Sans was okay with what he had. Reaping sinful souls had been what he'd done for the past centuries, and he didn't enjoy it, but he could manage it.

Death was originally not a thing ever since Reapertale was created. But it was born due to the shift of the Balance that kept Reapertale stable. However, as the number of humans grew, the Balance of the world began to skew. With nothing to kill off these beings, the Balance will be tilted and everything will be abrupt into chaos. Asgore, Gerson, and Gaster knew about this risk, so they decided to make the only thing capable of countering life: Death. Life, disgusted with the idea, fled from the Godly Realm and went into the human realm to hide in complete isolation. To create death, it needed to be the complete opposite of Toriel, who was light. So thus, they had to find something related to the dark. Asgore then harnessed a blackhole, due to it being the closest thing to represent Death at that time. Gaster was tasked with their actual creation, binding these elements and endowing them with Magic. However, Gaster had no real idea on how creation worked in the first place, yet he had to try regardless. During the creation of Death: there were unpredictable consequences. As a result, two death gods were made instead of one; Sans and Papyrus. Sans' main job is simple: reap every soul when it's their time to go. When he went to the mortal realm, he didn't have much of an idea on how to begin, but it didn't take long.

Sans wears a long black hood or cloak with a rope tied around his waist. He also carries a scythe and still has the same blue magic like his original counterpart. He has a constant grin spread across his face and has two eye sockets which rarely have pinpricks in them, otherwise they are empty. A trail of cyan light wisps from one of his eyes when he uses magic. He also has wings which he can summon and desummon at will. Similar to his original counterpart, Sans is often seen nonchalant towards those who address him. He hasn't had real value for anyone except for his brother, Papyrus, and Toriel. Quite recently, Sans was shown to have cherished the existence of Toriel , the goddess of life. He is merciless when he reaps souls, this is due to him hesitating to do so once before, creating a monster of which the world has not seen before. He is also quite flirty.

Reapertale is an Undertale AU which centers around the main cast of characters being Gods and Goddesses. Similar to Greek Mythology in a sense, the main cast of characters represented certain elements regarding their world as a whole. Created by Ren, an already well-known artist, the universe originally stemmed from a shipping Soriel , and eventually grew to be a well-established and popular AU with time.
