Renault latitude Renault Latitude was introduced in in a handful of European countries as a replacement to the Renault Vel Satis, renault latitude. The Latitude was based on the third-generation platform of the Nissan Teana, which was also shared with the aforementioned Samsung SM5. Well, these are two pretty similar cars we have here! It's only details that could potentially make the difference. Both the engines are Nissan-engineered. The first one has a 6-cylinder, valves hp unit, while the other one gets its power and torque from a 6-cylinder, valves hp one. This makes it virtually impossible for me to pick one over the other and I'm generally against buying such cars as the safety should really always come first.

Ride and handling dynamics are also well sorted in the Latitude. The Luxe variant rides on inch rims and Renault has chosen to fit the car with exceptionally good rubber in form of Continental ContiSportContact3 tyres, which provide superb grip in the wet or dry. More supple than soft, but firm enough for the car to track exactly where you point it, would be an apt description of the suspension compliance. I particularly like the hydraulic steering set-up in the petrol variant. The brakes are also very good with a nicely progressive pedal feel with all the usual safety features in that department including ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency brake assist and automatic activation of hazard warning lights normally a feature of higher end cars. The leather seats also provide great support, but they are of the firmer kind like Volkswagen rather than a more sumptuous design.

The Latitude still has to overcome buyer resistance, and it needs to answer plenty of questions, but it proves that new Australian management is not stopping after re-positioning and re-pricing the Megane at the start of the year. The Latitude is definitely a Renault, but not as we've known them. It's less 'French', more worldly, and that approach could work for a car that must go up against everything from the Ford Mondeo to Honda Accord and Toyota Aurion. Building with Samsung in Korea means the list of basic equipment runs from leather seats and alloy wheels to sun blinds, keyless starting, a 3D sound system, satnav - a TomTom system including speed limits - and dual-zone aircon.
