I was nearly two weeks into establishing a dedicated routine in Ring Fit Adventure , the latest fitness experiment from Nintendo. The idea of doing squats or thigh presses made me feel weak. But as I laid in bed chugging cough syrup, I also realized just how much the game had changed my mindset in such a short period. I went from never working out to feeling guilty about taking a weekend off. Back in the glory days of the original Wii, Wii Fit sold millions of users on the idea of working out in front of their televisions. It was more of a lightly playful fitness aid.

I never thought a piece of jewelry would lead to a complete overhaul of my health routine, but then again I'd never worn an Oura ring until last November. One of the most coveted health trackers in the mindbodygreen office, the lightweight ring uses ultra-sensitive sensors to measure heart rate, blood oxygen levels, body temperature, and movement throughout the day. The only reason it's not on every staffer's finger? Still at least eight of our health-enthusiast editors have caved on the tiny wearable, and we've spent 38 collective months testing out the tracker. When Oura first launched in , it provided a much-needed alternative to the fitness watches that dominated the space—we're looking at you Fitbit. It boggles my mind that this game has as high of a rating as it does, it seems to have never been updated, so hopes of a patch are null and void.
