Rossignol soul 7 2012

Over the past few years Rossignol has been turning out some experimental skis, from the incredibly popular S7, to the RC, rossignol soul 7 2012, a favorite of big mountain skiers but abandoned after rossignol soul 7 2012 few years of production. The Squad 7 is the newest addition to the creative lineup, combining features of the late RC and the S7 to create a big mountain mashing machine. One of the slight issues, or perhaps greatest attributes of the the Squad 7 is that it is a combination of these two characteristically different skis — taking a slarvy playful S7 and combining it with a stiff and burly RC

But if you are thinking about pulling the trigger on these skis, you really need to keep reading to see if you and the Super 7 would be a good fit. Before I get to the nitty gritty of the review, I need to tell the story of how I ended up on these skis. I want to keep it simple. I had been excited to try the S7 ever since watching Sage tear it up on them while forerunning a FWT comp at Snowbird a couple years ago — not to mention all of his TGR segments on the S7s. He just made them look so fun!

This past August I was presented with a tough choice: keep mountain biking, or go skiing in New Zealand with the Blister crew. While our time in New Zealand was characterized by a lot of great skiing, we also encountered some challenging, variable conditions. And the Soul 7 skied really well for me each time out. I only skied these skis at the club fields, which means no true groomers. However, we did occasionally find some slopes that had either been wind-scoured or sun baked to a nice consistent plane, so I did get a chance to lay the Soul 7 over on edge. What I found was a ski that would reward either a forward, shovel-pressing stance or a more neutral, centered stance. As Jonathan notes, the ski did break loose on higher-angle carves in harder snow, but when angled with a little less vigor, it would hold well. I skied it for two days on spring-like corn, and found that I could set almost whatever angle I wanted. For such a light ski, it was a pleasant surprise how solidly it held an edge. And I suspect that given their sidecut and flex pattern, these skis will hold their own on the icy goodness of Vermont groomers this winter. In pockets of wind-deposited pow, the Soul 7 was great—it felt like it had far more flotation than its mm waist would suggest. It was also really easy to smear the Soul 7 across the fall line. I tried to do the same thing with the Line Sick Day — it would do it, but with more effort. The Soul 7 felt like it was on pivots, similar to the cm Moment Deathwish I regularly ski in Vermont. One memorable day of the trip involved hiking out of bounds at Mt.

The Soul 7 with that super heavy Rossi demo binding and the tiny bit stiffer tail took some adjusting to get used to it. Would you still go ?

Already a classic after one season, the Rossignol Soul 7 has become a benchmark ski for backcountry, freeride and freestyle riding for expert riders the world over. We review them for the second time during our on-snow ski test in Kuhtai, Austria. Widely regarded as the one of the best new skis to the market over the last couple of years, Rossignol's Soul 7 certainly has the credentials to put it right up there in the freeride and off-piste category. Another commented; 'They're really lively and they like to turn quickly too. Boom, boom, boom, through the pow and then just popped right off a kicker - what a run. Not everyone agreed on the performance when back on the groomed stuff though. But they are a versatile snow tool, scoring right up there for all-terrain and all-mountain performance. Still, they are happiest when the snow is deep and the terrain is steep - purchase only if you feel the same way. Footnote: telemark skiers seem to particularly enjoy riding on the Soul 7 too and although we have not personally tested the Soul 7 with Telemark bindings, the feedback we get is very positive. All our reviews are independent and unbiased.

Versatile, maneuverable, effortless, light. But in my first four days on this ski, the Soul 7 exhibited no quirky behavior, and no surprises or hinge points in its flex pattern. It feels really well designed, in that its individual parts camber profile, shape, flex pattern, rocker lines, splay, etc. A lot of skiers across a wide range of ability levels are going to have a lot of fun on this ski this season. But one of the most impressive things about the S3 was how broad of a range of skiers it could serve, from beginners to experts, and the same is true of the Soul 7.

I ended up purchasing the Soul 7's I would consider them more of a big mountain ski rather than all mountain. It may not display this or other websites correctly. Jason and Jonathan.. Had I been trying to charge through those conditions I think it would have been a different story. However, at Snowbasin almost everything leads to a groomer back the lift. I'm thinking the s would be best, but wanted to get your opinion. I have the Another ski that jumps to mind for someone your size and ability is the new Volkl Shiro. The Line SD tip is 5cm wider, but otherwise measurements are quite similar. In general, I like Rossi skis so don't usually bother to check them out on demo days. I am interested in the armada tst and the soul 7.

One of our favorite skis to take out on a deep powder day, the Rossignol Soul 7 HD W is also incredibly competent in all other snow conditions.

Probably wouldn't bother to pay for the current model year though. Product Details. For such a light ski, it was a pleasant surprise how solidly it held an edge. What I like about this ski is that it floats very well for me in the powder and absolutely slays trees. That being said, most of them love it in the backcountry. Olympus to an adjacent peak, and skiing some of the gullies down to the rope tow. I am thinking ? My Account Register Login. Here, the Soul 7 reminded me a bit of the cm Moment Deathwish, in a lighter, even-easier-to-turn version. The SFBs are also roughly grams heavier per ski, and they felt slightly stiffer than the Soul 7s, enough to make a subtle, but noticeable, on-snow difference. You are using an out of date browser. Cons : Doesn't hold as well on hard snow as the S3 did Mainly because of the removal of material throughout the ski, which makes it insanely light. Great, versatile choice, offering good grip on hardpack, some float in soft snow, and easy turn initiation and transitions. One other thing, and possibly more of a factor than your skiing style is the snow you have in Utah.
