Rotterdam cabins to avoid
Stepping into the cabins on the MS Rotterdam feels like entering a luxury suite at a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton hotel albeit smaller. The light-blocking curtains and velvet throw pillows add a touch of elegance to the space. Each cabin includes a large flat-screen television, safe, and mini-bar stocked with beverages for purchase. What truly sets the Rotterdam apart are its balconies where you can take in the ocean breeze and soak up the stunning views while enjoying your morning coffee or evening cocktail. No matter what stateroom type you choose, expect intelligently designed spaces with plenty of electrical outlets, adjustable bedside reading lights, and ample closet space. While we found the pillows to be a little uncomfortable, the room steward did offer to swap them out for different pillow types towards the end of the cruise. The MS Rotterdam offers a good variety of television programming and a selection of complementary movies, old and new. While this may be a typical room, the balcony cabins are quite comfortable and feel anything BUT typical when compared to other cruise lines. A nice touch found in the rooms was a hair dryer, makeup mirror, robes, an umbrella as well as blankets to use on the balcony during chilly evenings a VERY Dutch thing to have! The bathrooms in the balcony cabins are beautiful and well designed. Unlike many cruise ships with horrible bathroom lighting, Holland America really put some thought into how people use the mirrors in the bathrooms to get ready in the evening, requiring decent light. Additionally, there is a wonderful glass shower with a rain head and intuitive controls. Gone are the days of the shower curtain sticking to you the entire time you try to bathe! The Rotterdam cruise ship offers various suite categories with different sizes and amenities to cater to the diverse preferences of guests that HAL is known for.

While the Singles are admittedly small, at square-feet, they provide an affordable, supplement-free option for single travelers. All, such as the square-foot Verandah Stateroom we occupied on recent back-to-back Norway cruises, are intelligently designed, with a veritable smorgasbord of electrical outlets that include three American plugs, two European style plugs and one USB port by the desk, plus one American plug and one USB port on each side of the bed s. Adjustable bedside reading lights are a thoughtful plus for those who want to enjoy a late read without disturbing their cabin mate. The closets had ample space for our wardrobes, although the closet doors and bathroom door open into each other, so be careful to coordinate dressing times with your traveling companion to avoid bruised fingers and hands. Full sized umbrellas and bathrobes are provided for use during the cruise. Most guests want their living quarters to have access to fresh air and open vistas of the sea, which Rotterdam provides in spades, with a range of balcony cabins and suites. The bathroom has a shower with a massage head.
For most people, you spend months — potentially a year or two — planning a cruise. I was lucky enough to spend the day exploring MS Rotterdam in Plymouth. I have used my time aboard as well as the info I collated from hundreds of online reviews, to come up with this guide to the best and worst staterooms on this HAL ship. There are four main cabin types you can choose from on MS Rotterdam. These each have subtypes of cabins within them….

Meanwhile, more contemporary cruisers will gravitate to dazzling shows in the high tech degree World Stage theater, party into the wee hours at the lively Music Walk entertainment complex, work out and regenerate in a state of the art gym and spa area and choose from an impressive array of bars and included, as well as extra tariff, specialty dining venues. Like most new ships, Rotterdam is laid out with public areas concentrated at the top and bottom of the ship, with decks of accommodations sandwiched between. Excluding embarkation day, when several elevators are set aside for loading luggage, the overall flow between decks is excellent, with three main stair towers and three banks of four elevators, which, in HAL tradition, have floor mats imprinted with the day of the week. Much of what you need for daily life onboard is located at the top of the ship between Decks 9 and There's also the aft open air SeaView Pool and Bar, where smoking is permitted. Overall, the flow here is good but can be a little challenging when crossing from one side to the other with access blocked on the right side of Deck 11 for crew. The top level of the double deck World Stage theater begins a line-up of public areas on Deck 3 that includes a full wraparound promenade, which was enjoyed immensely on sea days and before and after dinner, weather permitting. Down on Deck 2, don't miss the well-stocked library, a well-received area that will be retrofitted on sister ships Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam. And finally, the Music Walk entertainment complex has revolutionized Holland America ships.

UK Cruising. Additionally, there is a wonderful glass shower with a rain head and intuitive controls. Do you have a specific destination in mind? Special Interest Cruising. Ship happens and when it does, it is frustrating and very disappointing. Plus you tend to be more shielded from the wind. So those are the worst cabins you could book on MS Rotterdam — depending on you and your travelling party. Unlike many cruise ships with horrible bathroom lighting, Holland America really put some thought into how people use the mirrors in the bathrooms to get ready in the evening, requiring decent light. Those are mainly the staterooms and suites on Decks 10 and 11, at the very front of the ship. The OP seems to have been unlucky. That makes these rooms a good choice for smokers, but not a bad choice for non-smokers. The newest cruise ship for HAL has been well-received by passengers. It depends on your level of tolerance for sound and vibrations. There are two staterooms on Rotterdam that come with huge balconies, for no extra cost. POA1 Posted December 9,

I chose wisely and stayed away from the music venues. And for those who might be sensitive to noise bleeding through from the Music Walk, it would be best to avoid staterooms on the forward half of Deck 1. Subscribe to our Monthly Cruise Digest? I have booked for in may, and now I'm concerned! Contact us. Seems like HAL should not have placed a cabin in this area and should have placed crew work stations instead. We pay close attention to what's over, under, and around any room we choose. Connecting rooms are available for Ocean View and Verandah Staterooms, and if you request a connecting Verandah, then the balconies can also be connected, opening up that space more too. I book cabins as far away from showrooms as possible. See the Canaletto menu.
