However, alongside the domestic shenanigans are some mighty fine crime mysteries that entertain and confound in equal measure. For the majority of the series, Ruth lives in North Norfolk, in a tiny cottage at the edge of the salt marsh. It is an eerie, solitary place, with a flat horizon — if you can get above the marsh reeds to see it. The setting is really just a teeny dot on a map which Elly Griffiths crosses and recrosses with consummate skill. One of the many highlights of this series is its wonderful sense of location — from the desolate beaches to historic buildings and everything in between. That attention to detail helps to make each mystery feel like a visit with old friends, although this author is also adept as bringing in new blood too. Now the series has come to a halt with the arrival of The Last Remains. I feel really lucky to have been able to write 15 books — I think I only had a two-book deal at the beginning. Book one in the series starts as it means to go on, with bones unearthed at the edge of a North Norfolk salt marsh. Are they recent or ancient? The Ruth Galloway Series is a one of a kind piece of art. The pieces of writing are interesting and intriguing and they will touch the heart and mind of any individual that decides to dive into them. Ruth is an archeologist that lives in the land of Norfolk. Norfolk is considered some to be land and it is considered by others to be sea. It is a land that dates all the way back to the Iron Age and all the people there treat the land with the utmost respect. Bones have appeared from the waters and Nelson believes these are the bones of a little girl that disappeared many years ago. Nelson has a bucket of writing concerning this little girl; these writings state that the little girl was killed through rituals that take place within the land.
While some authors manage to create utterly enthralling stories that keep you guessing to the end, others lack depth and mystery and can leave you feeling deflated. Good news: The Ruth Galloway series is not the latter. The Ruth Galloway books follow the life and mystery of Dr. Ruth Galloway, a forensic archeologist working for Norfolk police in England. When mysterious remains are discovered and investigators are left scrambling for answers, Ruth is bought in to lend her expertise and help detectives crack the case. There are currently 15 books in the series, however, author Elly Griffiths has confirmed more books are in the pipeline. This is great news for her devoted fan base which all seem to agree that here compelling murder mysteries only get better with time.
