John's Tool Crib by John Cupp. I have had a chance to use this very nice band saw for the past few months. The new BS Band Saw adds some very nice features and is still priced the same. That is unheard of in these days of price adjustments that always seem to go up. When I first received this saw I looked it over very closely to find where they cut corners to keep the price the same. I did find differences but they were all more expensive plus better for the user. You get an upgraded motor, a nice rip fence and a new light.

Ryobi BS Bandsaw Review. Assembly The BS comes extremely well packed like the BT tablesaw , I suspect all of the larger Ryobi tools are similarly well packed. The machine goes together very quickly with a minimum of fuss. The instructions are good but the assembly is so simple you may not need to reference them much. It took me a mere 45 minutes to assemble the machine and nearly all of that was in the stand itself. The machine required very little in the way of alignment. Basically it amounts to setting the 90 degree angle of the table with a set screws and adjusting the blade guide bearings; something that can be done in just a few minutes. Click to enlarge Features I mentioned that the BS is "feature rich". What I mean by that is the machine has several features that have been integrated into the design, these features are usually not included on machines costing quite a bit more. There are two sets of LED work lights on the machine, one set spotlights the cutting area and the other illuminates the blade riding on the top wheel through a window in the case. These are turned on via a switch in the plastic cover. The expanding table is large with more area than typically found on larger, more costly machines. I did find that the table was somewhat easy to tweak out of it's locked in angle. In looking at the mechanism it appears that the locking knob just cannot apply enough force to keep it in position; the steel section of the trunion also deflects under load.
Attached to the trunion is a formed steel bracket used to support the table on the infeed side. Customers usually keep items from this brand.

By ralph mroz on Remodeling. With the possible exception of production framers, all carpenters have at least the occasional need to cut a curve or irregularly-shaped line. A band saw falls between a jigsaw—for cruder and less exact cuts, and a scroll saw—for finer cuts and smaller workpieces. The jigsaw is smaller and more portable, but is harder to control and is less exact. A scroll saw is necessary for fine woodworking and wood crafting, but is limited in the size of material that is can handle. The band saw fills the curve-cutting roles for much of the rest of carpentry.

But recently, I noticed that several power tool companies were offering small band saws made with much the same construction and features found on full-sized saws. Intrigued, I set about to test as many of these little saws as I could. My goal was twofold: First, to determine what kinds of woodworking jobs these diminutive, affordable band saws are capable of. Besides varying in features and cosmetics, each saw has its own performance personality, and some just flat-out cut better than others. There are but a few elements of the Craftsman that distinguish it from the competition. While its welded frame is just like two other saws, its wheels have wider, sturdier looking spokes than the other two. The Craftsman has plenty of power to tackle all the basic band saw cutting operations, crosscutting, ripping and even doing light resawing of hardwoods. This is a practical feature, as the ribs can help keep sawdust from hanging up the workpiece.

Perhaps the most inspiring work comes in the form of fine woodworking. Even today I stop to appreciate intricately detailed corbels, posts, shelves, and so on. Many tools and much skill are involved in getting these pieces to their finished states.
