Wasn't an issue with my previous M soundbar, samsung soundbar remote volume not working, just with the new Q60T one. First thing to try is to use the "Universal Remote" option on the tv to setup the tv remote to control the soundbar.

I have an older Sonos Playbar concocted to the TV via optical cable. The audio setting is correct receiver -optical. When I try a control the volume with the Samsung remote, a pop up appears confirming the receiver is set to optical, but volume control does not work. Unfortunately, when I called Samsung tech support, it took more than 90 minutes for them to tell me that the remote will not control optical sound. I tried a bit of logic: Why would Samsung produce a version tv and not have its universal remote control optical audio devices?

I purchased a new soundbar recently and tried to connect the FIRST one through an optical cable to the tv. The soundbar would turn on but would only connect via bluetooth. The remote control did not function but I was able to increase and decrease the volume from the unit buttons on the actual soundbar. The display never came on I was unaware they even had one before I started googling it. Returned to the vendor I purchased it from and they gave me a replacement. I then tried to connect the optic cable to this second one and BOOM the display no longer works and remote no longer works. I have tried holding down the volume up and down buttons on the device. It did restart the speaker but after resetting, the display and remote still do not work. I have unplugged multiple times, tried different outlets and have gotten no different results. Solved mine. Issue 4: Remote Controls Other Devices.

All has been fine up to now, along with 2 x wireless speakers that don't appear to give me any issues after the initial teething connection problems. Last night I turned the soundbar on using its own remote control, as opposed to selecting it through the TV, but I couldn't adjust the volume using the TV remote - as I normally would - having to resort to the soundbar remote instead. When using TV remote all it showed was the soundbar 'flag' on the left hand side, with no volume adjustment. I have reset the soundbar, unplugged the HDMI lead, and reconnected, but it still will not allow me to adjust the volume. Anyone any ideas? I get the exact same issue now, and it never did this before. For me I'm on a Q7F65" and an N soundbar.

First thing to try is to use the "Universal Remote" option on the tv to setup the tv remote to control the soundbar. It doesn't seem like this should be necessary as all of the devices are Samsung but it did make the difference and the tv remote always works for the volume now. I also upgraded the firmware on the tv by manually downloading the latest version from the website and using a USB stick. This latest version wasn't available through the tv's interface. I don't know whether this is necessary in addition to setting up the "Universal Remote" but it doesn't seem to hurt. And actually the TV Plus additional channels are working again.
