While ownership pitches from the concierge can be pesky, this property does have a variety of quality restaurants, considerable spa offerings, and three elegant infinity pools. The hotel overlooks a gorgeous strip of white-sand beach and some rooms have balconies with striking water views. There is hour room service, a chic lobby bar, and well-equipped fitness center, but some guests complain about a lack of nightlife and limited number of pool and beach umbrellas. Sandos Cancun presents itself as an adult-oriented property, though guests have noted there are plenty of children at the hotel. The lobby has marble floors and mosaic-tiled columns along with mod lamps. The atmosphere is sophisticated, with a chic lobby bar and romantic restaurants.

One of the advantages of the United States is the vast number of tourist destinations within affordable travel range and so we took a week's vacation to Cancun Mexico and tripped about the Riviera Maya and Yucatan. As it was toward's the end of the high season we got a killer deal on Orbitz for a week at the Sandos resort, an all inclusive holiday destination. This means all you can eat food and drink; a concept that Americans seem to love on vacation but for me this was my first time at such a place. I thought you might be interested in what you get at such a resort. They had 3 major restaurants - Seasons - a set menu molecular gastronomy affair, Zango's - the main restaurant and buffet, Gaijin - an unfortunately named teppanyaki restaurant. Assorted breads baked in house. Shrimp "ceviche" ravioli with chipotle emulsion. Yellow corn "cappucino" with coconut foam and truffle parfum. Roasted duck breast with passion fruit spheric and sweet sensations salad. So what was my experience of the food and drink at Sandos? Like many facilities designed for Americans I find the customer service to be variable depending on how nice you are to the staff and whether you tip. I found that customers that were rude or needy to the staff were treated in kind.

The infinity pool was nice with fun activities like water aerobics and volleyball. Verified reviews from real guests. Very good vibe given by the deep house music playing at the pool area.

We had kind of decided on Sandos, but Royal has come up with a great deal and they are rated 25 and 26 on TA, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me the differences between the two. We are looking for luxury, nice beach, great pools, and great food. We haven't been to the Royal but we did stay at Sandos Luxury for 2 weeks a few years ago. While a nice enough resort, it doesn't fit my idea of "luxury". It is on a beautiful stretch of beach, food was good, but limited choices in dining and only one lobby bar for nights.

Would I pay rack rate and still be happy? Clean, slightly dated resort in good location, undergoing some renovation. The room we chose had all major amenities and was clean… extensive travertine throughout as is standard in Mexico.

Still I would happily recommend the experience to others going to Mexico especially given the very limited number of smaller hotels and resorts in the Cancun area.
