Not even Ghostface could see this twist coming. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make. It seemed to some fans like the planned sequel was collapsing in real time. That no longer seems to be in the cards. Another source familiar with the franchise disputed this, saying Ortega was never in the mix for the new film. Some set pieces and twists may be preserved, but the movie will need to find new protagonists.

Eligible info. Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a terrifying new killer resurrects the Ghostface mask. As the deaths mount, Woodsboro's new targets must seek help from the survivors of the original Ghostface attacks. Even though director Wes Craven has passed on I thought to myself they are going to wreck the franchise. They cannot make a Scream movie without Wes. To my pleasent surprise they have! Interesting take on the running satirical and meta commentary on horror franchises and reboots, requels and sequela in general. Lots of "Easter Eggs"for Scream fans. The only gripes are the editing in some scenes are missing that Craven touch along with pacing. Courtney Cox looks bored and is just there for cash. Loved the first one because it was believable but this felt very forced and who gets up and guts someone after three chest shoots close range with a magnum!!

The Scream movies in order, as well as the TV series, draw a linear path that results in a terrifying story told pretty much in order. It's almost easy to forget the impact 's Scream had on both the slasher genre and horror in general in the decades since its debut. While the early '90s produced some great horror movies, it was something of a fallow period for the genre, but the success of Scream helped revitalize it. Its savage violence, witty meta-awareness, and likable cast saw it become a sensation, and its success spawned many sequels and similar movies like Urban Legends. Like any long-running series, some entries in the Scream movie franchise are better than others, but they all got creative with the rules and tropes of the genre and never lost their meta quality. In keeping with the trend of turning hit horror franchises into TV series, Scream received its own show in and was controversial for its decision to drop the iconic Ghostface mask, in addition to having no direct links to the films.

Whereas the first script by Kevin Williamson turned the kind of conversations that fans had about John Carpenter and Wes Craven in school cafeterias and coffee houses into something daring and riveting, the new script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick exists in a world where those conversations happen on a much larger scale in Discord chats, Reddit threads, and fan conventions. It's a horror film for a world in which everyone has an opinion on horror films. Much like Sidney Prescott Neve Campbell from the original, Sam has some dark family drama that forced her to leave her sister behind, but it feels like this new killer attacked Tara to get the big sis to come home. Of course, Rian Johnson directed. I hope it leads to more work like it. Think of them like the legacy characters in the Star Wars sequels—essential but not driving the story. As for Samantha, she has such a close relationship to one of the original characters that she hallucinates conversations with him that have some dodgy CGI that make them less effective than they probably were on paper. One of these young people is probably a killer. Given the track record of this series, probably more than one. I do think that he would have drawn a few better performances from the young cast, who are all good enough but nowhere near as distinctly memorable as the original crew, sometimes leaning into melodramatic emotions in a way that Craven would have dialed down.
