A DC 16? And its only an ability check? No proficiency bonus? No taking into account how close I am to having the spell myself? So naturally, I go into my 1e books to see how scrolls used to work, you know, back when spell access was more limited and scrolls were actually used by people.

Makes sense, right? Here is why I am still not sold if interested. Author: pandaniel. Again even though I take a different view from you I want to thank you for your guide. Proficiency in Arcana can easily be fitting for pretty much any caster, so go wild! An elf could make a scroll every long rest while others are dreaming! It does seem an odd deaign choice. Personally I find opening spell scrolls up to different classes more fun. Additionally you need to have proficiency in the Arcana skill and provide the material components that the spell requires.
