Blue Lock has quickly become one of the most popular sports anime since its release on October 9, The Blue Lock program opened its doors to promising U forwards who will participate in a highly competitive battle-royale circuit. Spearheaded by Ego Jinpachi, this program aims to develop the greatest striker in the world. The anime series follows the journey of Yoichi Isagi, a talented player who learns and evolves to keep up with the genius strikers in the program. In the Season 1 finale of Blue Lock, viewers were teased with the introduction of a new main character, Ryusei Shidou. Ryusei was first introduced at the beginning of the Third Selection and was one of the select few characters who received a grand introduction in the Season 1 finale.
Shidou
Ryusei Shidou is a supporting character of the Blue Lock. Shidou unlike most forwards has no concrete dream of becoming the world's best striker but rather seeks to enjoy life to the fullest by playing football. Out of the original forwards chosen to be apart of the Blue Lock Project, Ryusei is an ideal candidate for the type of striker Ego strives to create and after the Japan U match, Shidou is ranked as one of the top players in Blue Lock. Shidou is a tall, tanned high schooler with spiky blonde hair having two strands falling on both sides of his face often comapred to antennaes. He has pink colored irises with slited pupils in them like a cat. He is very expressive and is often seen with a joker-like grin or smirk. Ryusei Shidou is an eccentric football player in Blue Lock who has a strong penchant for violence or physical altercations. At the core of Shidou's personality is a drive to play football not because it is a sport he enjoys playing but because to him it is a biological phenomenon that makes him feel complete. A noticeable trait of Shidou's is his propensity for violence to get what he wants often being unwilling to work with most people if anybody at all. Despite this, Shidou can be openly affectionate and flirtatious towards his teammate Sae Itoshi, who had released him from Blue Lock in order to play for the Japan U Team. Shidou can also be overtly sexual at times and though he is prone to violence, he also learns how to control his violent rampages in exchange for playing high-level football longer. Shidou has always been very clear about his attraction toward Sae Itoshi. He openly tells Sae he likes him and asks for his number.

He has pink colored irises with white silted pupils in them like a cat, and he is of similar height and body building to Rin Itoshi.

After their win, Ryusei chose Reo Mikage to become their fifth member, effectively eliminating Rensuke from Blue Lock. To make matters worse, he possesses a confrontational personality, seemingly inclined to resolve conflicts through violence, as evidenced by his behavior in the Season 1 finale. Finally, Ryusei is different from the other strikers in Blue Lock. Shidou responds to this by asking Sae if he can move in with him if he scores 10 goals.
